A Summer to Remember in Timangguyob

‘The best things in life are the people you love, the places you’ve seen, and the memories you’ve made along the way.’ It was in the middle of the summer season when a planned trip to the summer capital didn’t push through I decided to look for a worthy destination just near the city. And since its summer, waterfalls were the obvious alternative for beaches. And when we talk about waterfalls here in Tarlac, only one name will come to mind: Timangguyob. This is considered as the most visited and well known as compared to other waterfalls in the province of Tarlac. It has a 15 meter high waterfall located at Sitio Dueg, Barangay Maasin in the municipality of San Clemente. It was the unanimous choice of destination for a summer escapade with my colleagues. ‘Umakyat. Nahulog. Nasaktan. At nagmahal muli.’ Unang Akyat Napakabilis lumipas ang panahon. Ngayon ay eksaktong isang taon na ang nakalilipas mula nang subukan kong umakyat ng bundok. Hindi naging maganda ang aking karanasan sa una kong akyat noon kaya hindi ko akalain na hanggang sa kasalukuyan ay ginagawa ko pa rin ang bagay na ito. Bagamat ganoon ang kinahantungan ng akyat ko sa bundok Daraitan sa lalawigan ng Rizal ay hindi ako nagsisi at pinanghinaan ng loob. Kakatwa pa nga dahil nasundan pa ang una kong akyat hanggang sa maging sunud-sunod na ito. Naging isang hilig ang bagay na sa simula ay isa lamang sanang libangan – isang paraan upang saglit na makalimot sa stress at pagod sa trabaho. ‘Ulap’ is LOVE

‘Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.’ From Pinatubo to Ulap I originally intended to organize a Mount Pinatubo day hike for my next climb together with my colleagues, but the high cost of registration and other fees via the Sta. Juliana, Capas trail which I deemed unreasonable made me decide to cancel it. My eagerness to finally conquer this mountain which is situated between the boundaries of Tarlac, Pampanga and Zambales, was not enough to proceed with my plan since it will be hard for the participants of my event to shoulder a considerable sum of money with Christmas season just looming around the corner. Finding an alternative mountain to climb was easy. I didn’t have any other option in mind but Mount Ulap which was located in Itogon, Benguet.
